Bullet, Minie [realia]. 1863

Block of wood embedded with a rifle ball was cut from a tree on the battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. There is a hook at the top for hanging. Pasted on the wood is a label: "Of Culp's Hill, Gettysburg." Another label reads: "Gettysburg, Pa. July 2, 3, '63. The Union loss was 2,834 killed, 13,713 wounded, and 6,643 missing. The best estimates put the Confederate loss at 5,000 killed, 23,000 wounded and 8,000 unwounded prisoners."
